Case Study: Netherlands Railways Improves Operations Workflow Using Wireless LAN, 30 November 2006, by William Clark
The following Gartner study describes how by upgrading a mobile application that was based on synchronization by MultiMediaCard to wireless, Netherlands Railways (Nederlandse Spoorwegen) was able to significantly improve productivity for its conductors, drivers and station personnel.

Gartner Hype Cycle for Enterprise Communication Applications, July 2007, by Monica Basso
Analyst Firm Gartner describes location-aware applications as “mobile enterprise applications that exploit the geographical position of a mobile worker or an asset, mainly through satellite positioning technologies, such as the Global Positioning System (GPS), or through location technologies in the cellular network and mobile devices — for example, fleet management applications with mapping, navigation and routing functionalities; government inspections; and integration with geographic information system applications”. Gartner estimates that “the market is in an early adoption phase in all regions” and foresees a market penetration of 5% to 20% of the target audience, split between leading vendors in the field such as Appear Networks, Aventeon, IBM, LogicaCMG, Webraska Mobile.

Context Delivery Architecture: Putting SOA in Context, by Yefim V. Natis, William Clark, Ray Valdes
Analyst Firm Gartner describes context-aware computing as a technology that will enhance the value of software solutions beyond the agility brought by adherence to service-oriented architecture (SOA) and estimates that most IT organizations will extend their SOA investment with the context delivery architecture (CoDA) in the next five to 10 years. Gartner describes Appear IQ as an example of how a middleware provider can deliver multichannel applications to enable equivalent online/offline experiences and maintain the context for users between PC-based Web interfaces and handheld applications.
