MIDAS – Middleware Platform for Developing and Deploying Advanced Mobile Services

Traditionally, the provisioning of customised mobile services and applications is a time consuming and technically difficult process with each new service often requiring a great deal of reinvention. Furthermore, the lack of a standard approach to key issues such as the need to combine infrastructure-based and infrastructure-less communications increases the challenges of providing and deploying new mobile services quickly and effectively.

Using the Appear Context Engine, MIDAS solves these issues by providing a context-aware platform that simplifies and speeds up the creation of developing as well as deploying mobile services and applications to the right people when and where they need them. By providing middleware building blocks, service developers can concentrate on providing the customised functionality required for the provision of critical services and information in situations where time and infrastructure availability are often critical factors. For example:

Emergency situations: Emergency crews need to react quickly and coordinate activities when responding to an incident. The MIDAS platform makes it possible to rapidly establish a network at very short notice.

Large one-off events: Major sports events, concerts or exhibitions where infrastructure and service provisioning are temporary. By installing MIDAS on a collection of nodes, additional mobile services can be provided to large numbers of end-users without the need for reinventing each service.

Using the MIDAS context-aware platform, companies seeking to deploy value-added mobile services will be able to do so with reduced risks and lower investment levels.
