Appear Networks’ Awarded Gold and Silver in Mobile Star Awards
Appear Networks’ enterprise mobility, field service and WLAN deployments recognised as “visionary” with Gold and Silver Awards for Dutch Rail and Kista Science City
Stockholm, October 16, 2006 – The annual Mobile Star Awards have recognised Appear Networks’ as a visionary in the mobile enterprise space. Winners of each category are selected according to their innovative approach to mobility as well as the success and results of the deployment. Dutch Rail (Nederlandse Spoorwegen), the largest known mobile workforce deployment in Europe, was awarded a Gold and Silver Star in the WLAN Deployment and Field Service categories respectively, whilst Kista Science City was awarded a Silver Star in the category WLAN Deployment.
Since deployment in 2005, Appear Networks’ Dutch Rail deployment for 10,000 mobile employees continues to impress the rail industry. Having achieved a return on investment in less than five months, the deployment has also had an impact on the bottom line with cost savings estimated to be EUR 8 million per year. Saving between 20-25 minutes per day using the context-aware Appear Synchronisation Module, employees can work more productively and focus more on customer service.
Kista Science City’s transformation into a wireless “hotspot” to promote the latest in mobile applications and technologies demonstrates the uses of intelligent mobile solutions to both consumers and employees in Kista’s Shopping Mall. Employees such as maintenance workers in the shopping mall have the possibility to receive specific task notifications, whilst retailers can receive sales information. An important application is the security alert that can instantly inform employees of theft or potential dangers to the public. Consumers can also receive information on the latest product offers, restaurants and entertainment within the mall. Contributing to Stockholm’s reputation as the IT capital of Europe, the solution in Kista Science City can provide a platform for intelligent mobile solutions for local governments in other European cities.
