Appear Networks Continues Rapid Growth in the Wireless Enterprise Space with US Market Entry.

Appear Networks sets up North American office in order to support growing demand of its intelligent wireless communication platform.

Stockholm and Tampa, April 8, 2005 – After a successful expansion in the European market, Appear Networks, a leading enabler of enterprise mobility solutions, is setting up presence in the USA. The CEO, Ann-Louise Palm, is relocating to the USA in order to kick-start the North American operations with board member Scott Layman, whereas Xavier Aubry is taking the responsibility of the European operations.

Since 2000, Appear Networks has been developing an intelligent wireless communication platform to meet the needs of mobile employees and facilitate their successful use of technology. The Appear IQ adds an additional layer of computing intelligence to standard wireless data networks, transforming them into channels for delivering relevant data, mission critical video and facilitating communication via Voice over IP (VoIP). The key is Appear IQ’s ability to recognize and anticipate the needs of mobile workers based on their job responsibilities, physical location, bandwidth capacity, time-of-day, device type and more.

The Appear Context Engine (ACE) proactively pushes personalized, real-time information to the user’s handheld device whenever they enter or move between authorized wireless zones.

Data is displayed in a user-friendly format using simple, straightforward icons that encourage user adoption (Click&Run™ technology). The provisioning of new applications and the synchronization of data is conducted automatically whenever necessary, without impact on the user (context-based synchronization). The end result is a successfully deployed mobile workforce – more productive employees, a drop in the cost of operating their handheld devices and enhanced customer satisfaction.

Appear IQ has now being deployed by major European Transportation and Telecom operators who are currently rolling out their Wi-Fi infrastructure, both for their employees and their customers.

“The US market has always been at the forefront of WLAN infrastructure and enterprise mobility” says Ann-Louise Palm, CEO of Appear Networks. Palm continues: “The initial market response has been very favorable to Appear’s technology, in particular in industries such as healthcare and transportation. Our strong partnerships with companies such as Cisco and Intel will be a key success factor for growing the US business”.

By end of 2004, 30% of organizations in the USA have transitioned WLAN trials into full production, according to META Group. WLAN adoption will accelerate over the next two years, with more than 50% of organizations deploying WLAN by 2006 (META Group research, Nov. 2004).

Xavier Aubry, Appear’s former VP Sales & Marketing, takes the role of VP EMEA Operations and will be responsible for growing the European business, building on the solid base of customers and partners that Appear Networks has gathered over the past four years.
