Appear Networks Wins “Best Enterprise Solution” Award
Syntec Informatique and France Telecom award Appear Networks “Best Enterprise Solution” for the RATP mobile employee project
Stockholm, 26 June 2006 – Appear Networks and partner Neotilus have been awarded “Best Enterprise Solution” at the second Innovation Awards held by the French association of software and computing service companies - Syntec, the Association of IT Directors of Major French corporations - CIGREF, the French daily economic newspaper, La Tribune & France Telecom.
The prize was awarded to Appear Networks for its context-aware mobile employee projects within RATP, the Paris Local Transport Authority. RATP is using Appear IQ as a mobility platform for “Wireless Employees” and “Intelligent Buses”. Both are, according to Jöelle Richert, Project Manager at RATP, “key elements for the organisation’s vision of implementing an intelligent communications solution which addresses the needs of both employees and passengers”.
The Wireless Employee Project, using the Appear IQ platform, automatically recognises an RATP employee upon entering a wireless hotspot. This enables the employee via his PDA direct access to information that is relevant to the situation at hand. This function turns the Paris Subway into an intelligent working environment: the Workspot. Itinerary planning, traffic disruptions, timetables, real-time traffic information and other location-based information are automatically pushed onto the employee’s mobile device depending on location, employee profile and time of the day. The Intelligent Bus project embeds an intelligent wireless platform in a city bus. This enables RATP employees to access precise information through their mobile hardware (laptops, PDAs…) depending on the time of day and the location of the bus, using the Appear Context Engine.
As Jöelle Richert, Project Manager at RATP explains: “Our employees can now access real-time traffic information and local information and pass this knowledge onto our customers - the passengers. We see our communications platform as a way to also develop innovative services that will improve the passengers overall experience. In this framework Appear Networks’ technology is a key asset.”
Xavier Aubry, COO for Appear Networks’ European operations, added: “This is the fourth major award the RATP solution has won. Given the tough nature of the competition we are extremely delighted that our context-aware communications platform is gaining further industry recognition and helping innovative companies, such as RATP, become leaders in their field.”
