Appear Networks announces the new version of its middleware platform for local wireless networks, Appear Provisioning Server 3.0 at Comdex, Las Vegas
Appear Provisioning Server 3.0 enables the provisioning of location-based workforce applications in WLAN hotspots
Stockholm, Sweden - 18 November 2002 - Appear Networks, European leader in proximity-triggered application platforms for the task-specific mobile workforce, today announced the availability of Appear Provisioning Server (APS) 3.0, the new version of its middleware platform for local wireless networks.
APS 3.0 is the first application provisioning platform, designed specifically for corporations operating a local WLAN hotspot for their own local workforce. Examples of large WLAN hotspots are airports, train stations or conference centres, where large mobile workforces such as security personnel, information agents, maintenance workers need to access to location-specific applications. Such applications are designed to improve workforce productivity and enhance the level of customer service.
APS 3.0 relies on patent-pending Click & Run™ software, the most advanced technology for application provisioning and management in wireless networks, that enables any mobile device connected to a wireless IP network to discover, download and run location-specific applications in one single click.
Applications distributed with APS 3.0 are automatically installed and executed locally on the wireless device and can be used online as well as offline - inside network coverage as well as outside. The unique Click & Run™ distribution mechanism makes download and installation of a new application as easy as sending an email.

The major feature of this new version of APS is its ability to manage multiple Click & RunTM zones. The enterprise can configure different service sets that should be provisioned to different network zones, using a powerful graphical administration interface. New features also include remote server monitoring and notification, traffic statistics and intelligent local network session and application caching.
“Our recent deployments for customers such as the French Railway Authority and the World Robotics Congress, have shown us the importance of location-based applications for the local workforce” explains Ann-Louise Palm, CEO of Appear Networks. “Maintenance, customer service and security personnel need contextual services, applications that are specific from the zone they are in and the task they are conducting. APS 3.0 reduces the cost of deploying location-specific applications for large corporations”, added Ann-Louise Palm.
