Appear Networks wins the “BtoB” Award for the most innovative technology for the transport sector at the Progilog trade show, Paris

Appear Networks’ APS (Appear Provisioning Server) honoured at the national Transportation & Logistics trade fair.

Paris, 3 December 2002 - Appear Networks, European leader in the development of software platforms for local wireless networks, has just won a major award for its unique Click & Run™ technology, after being nominated at the major Supply Chain Management trade show, Progilog, held last week at the CNIT in Paris. The “BtoB” Award for the most innovative technology in the transportation sector was awarded to Appear Networks by the organisers of the show and its partner, “Transports & Technologies”, a well-known transport publication in France.

Appear Networks receives the "BtoB Award" during Progilog The "BtoB Award" rewards the most innovative technology in the transportation sector

“We are extremely honoured to win this award,” said Ann-Louise Palm, CEO of Appear Networks. “The world of transport and logistics consists of a succession of professional connectivity zones, also known as Workspots, such as train stations, airports, hotels, warehouses and logistics centres. All of these Workspots make up the global supply chain in which communication and tracking are of prime importance.”

The APS solution, used inside a warehouse or a delivery area, enables any vehicle to transmit information relating to its consignment, previous activity or vehicle maintenance, simply and quickly. Data is received by mobile equipment such as ruggedized handheld devices (used by the driver or installed in the vehicle) via wireless local area networks (such as WLAN 802.11b networks) deployed on-site.

Appear Networks’ technology has made possible the elaboration of a real communications strategy within and between these Workspots. In the future, drivers’ transit locations (for example, service stations, hotels, tolls) could be equipped with wireless local networks in order to “mesh” numerous Workspots together and to guarantee continuous communication.

“Our experience with WLAN technologies means that we can propose a very attractive solution to the transportation industry, a technologically advanced sector,” added Ann-Louise Palm, before continuing, “Our solutions are concrete, already implemented and bring an immediately quantifiable gain in productivity. This award represents the recognition of several years of hard work carried out with international universities, namely KTH University in Sweden and Harvard, MIT in the United States.”

About Appear Networks: www.appearnetworks.com

Appear Networks is an European leader in proximity-triggered application platforms for the task-specific mobile workforce. Appear Provisioning Server is the first platform already in use, designed to deploy wireless applications on WLAN “hotspot” networks, such as airports, railway/subway stations or conference venues. Applications can be location-based workforce applications (for productivity gains and increased quality of service) as well as value-added guest services (for customer loyalty and revenue generation).

Click & Run™ is the most advanced technology for application provisioning and management in wireless networks: it enables any mobile device connected to a wireless IP network to discover, download and run location-specific applications in one single click.
