The European Business Awards, sponsored by HSBC, have today released the findings of their ‘Business As Usual’ Study*. Appear joined hundreds of Europe’s top business leaders in a study which examined attitudes towards doing business over the next 12 months. Despite the doom and gloom proffered by many, the findings reveal that European businesses are extremely buoyant about the future and many predict growth beyond national averages.

New found optimism and aggressive business planning has led to over half of all companies questioned predicting minimum growth of 10% by the end of 2011.

Key findings from the survey are:

1 in 3 are looking to dominate their sector and have ambitions to grow
29% feel it is essential to diversify product offerings and services
Only 6% of European businesses are concentrating on core business

24% are investing in training and 39% plan to invest in their existing talent

Appear to Represent Sweden in Europe's Most Competitive Business Awards Competition

Appear Prime Partners Announce Collaboration on Mobile Workforce Solution

BRUSSELS – 24 June, 2010 – SITA and Motorola today announced a partnership that aims to reduce delays in aircraft turnaround and achieve significant savings in ground operations through a complete SITA Mobile Workforce Solution.

SITA Mobile Workforce removes on the ground, static, paper-based processes and provides real-time data to reduce business costs, automate workflow management, improve staff flexibility, better manage disruption and improve customer service.

Using a single Motorola handheld device for all applications, duty managers can perform up to five aircraft turnarounds simultaneously: a significant improvement on the present �norm� of one manager per turnaround. Real-time data communication reduces the chance of human error which occurs with dependence on voice communication and paperwork. In addition, the increased flexibility in mobilizing the workforce enables better disruption management while tracking activity of both the workforce and equipment.

Through pilots conducted over the past 18 months, SITA has demonstrated the following additional benefits:

Airlines have reported up to 10% savings in workforce labor cost alone through improved line maintenance due to real-time planning;
Airports have seen a 20% increase in annual revenue from ad-hoc requests as a result of proper recording and billing;
Ground handlers have recorded 20% savings in fuel consumption by remote control of ground equipment such as aircraft heaters, and monitoring maintenance status.

Inefficiencies have been shown to cause 333 days (or 28.8 million seconds) of aircraft delays in the USA alone each year and between 5-10% of ramp operations workforce time is wasted due to lack of on-time/real-time information. This year’s SITA/Airline Business Airline IT Trends survey released today found the following workforce mobility functionality already being implemented among the 129 airlines which participated in the survey:

Baggage handling/sorting/tracking (21%)
In-flight cabin services (excl. duty free) (20%)
Aircraft maintenance/engineering (20%)
Flight dispatch/ramp management (14%)

Mobile services for staff are more likely to be implemented at hub locations initially (61%); 21% of the respondents are also considering selected remote airports for such services. Tier One airlines are ahead of the technology adoption curve here, with 55% already using mobile services for in-flight cabin services and 50% using them for aircraft maintenance/engineering. These respective percentages will rise to 91% and 75% over the next three years.

The MUSIC Consortium announced today an advance software release of the MUSIC platform (version 0.6.0) on BerliOS, which would be of use for the development of mobile application software and services. The goal of the MUSIC project is to supply a language tool and middleware environment to make it feasible to develop next generation mobile applications and services, which adapt automatically and seamlessly to the ever-changing context typically facing mobile users. The MUSIC middleware (www.ist-music.eu) can be applied for the development of adaptive applications for any type of target devices such as PCs, Laptops or mobile phones, which support at least Java 1.4 and must have OSGi available at run-time.

The main novelty of the latest release, v0.6.0, is the support for Android devices by the MUSIC middleware and applications. MUSIC applications can be deployed in more powerful devices improving considerably the capabilities and users' satisfaction. Reciprocally, Android OS is capable to expose self-adaptive applications, which smartly considers the limitation of resources and the execution context.

The new version has also released the support for SLA. This is the last step in the roadmap to accomplish a SOA architecture, which simplifies the creation of mobile ubiquitous applications. MUSIC applies the LGPL licence, which does not apply their restrictions to the resulting software, so that it can be exploited under any chosen form�.

The MUSIC middleware would be interesting to users from different perspectives. For example

Software developers might be able to reach higher levels of productivity in the developmenet of self adapting software by adopting MUSIC methods and tools.
Communication infrastructure operators might have a better means for optimizing the use and availability of their resources
Service providers (both public and commercial) might be able to reach and satisfy their users better to see an increased market for their products

Tutorials provide an overview of the main results of the MUSIC project to date and includes information on the MUSIC methodologies and the middleware.

The final release of the "MUSIC" platform is due by the end of Q2 2010. It is the result of a consortium involving leading brand named organizations as well as leading European researchers and innovators. Functieprofiel
Als Software Engineer ben je de spil tussen de klant en de productontwikkelingsafdeling in Zweden. In nauwe samenwerking met de hoofd software engineer in Zweden en de andere software engineers in Nederland werk je aan het vertalen van complexe functionele en technische eisen van klanten in gedetailleerde projectplannen en mogelijke productwijzigingen. Je ondersteunt het verkoopteam met jouw kennis van techniek en de producten.

De taken zijn onder andere:

geven van technische productpresentaties voor prospects en klanten
meewerken aan implementatietrajecten van de producten bij klanten, waarbij vaak ook partners betrokken zijn
technische bijdrage leveren aan de beantwoording van RFI's en RFP
geven van producttrainingen aan klanten en partners
eisen en wensen van klanten vertalen naar wijzigingen voor de producten
deelname aan het interne product management proces
inrichting van demo omgevingen en prototypes
bijdragen aan productdocumentatie
technische ondersteuning van het verkoopteam bij klantgesprekken en marketingactiviteiten

De standplaats is Amersfoort, het werkgebied hoofdzakelijk Nederland, maar projecten kunnen ook elders in Europa, Amerika of Azie plaatsvinden. Verder zullen er regelmatig bijeenkomsten op het hoofdkantoor in Stockholm zijn. Regelmatig reizen hoort dus bij het werk.

Functie-eisen
Je vindt het leuk om het verkoopproces vanuit een technische perspectief te ondersteunen. Als software engineer neem je ook deel aan implementatietrajecten voor de klanten. Deze projecten worden meestal bij de klant uitgevoerd en je hebt geen probleem met het werken aan verschillende projecten tegelijk met strakke deadlines. Je hebt gewerkt aan grote enterprise mobility projecten, als projectleider of software engineer, in uiteenlopende technische omgevingen. Je begrijpt complexe werkprocessen en kunt deze vertalen naar software specificaties. Je bent klantgericht, praktisch ingesteld, vindt het leuk om geregeld te reizen voor het werk en hebt een 'can-do' instelling.

Relevante technische kennis: Java5, JEE applicatie servers en/of .NET compact framework, native Windows Mobile software ontwikkeling. Je hebt een sterke interesse in/kennis van mobiele technologie. Kennis van GUI ontwerp/gebruikersinteractie is een pluspunt. Vloeiend Engels in schrift en woord is een vereiste.
