Context-aware mobile solutions make construction workers more effective. And buildings more intelligent!

London and Stockholm – 7 February 2012 – Appear, a mobile enterprise application platform specialist, announced today that they have joined COMIT, the Centre of Excellence for the implementation of Mobile IT in the construction industry, with the vision of developing innovative context-aware mobile solutions for construction workers in the key process areas of maintenance inspections, progress monitoring, site design, problem resolution as well as health and safety monitoring.

COMIT aims to take proven technologies such as the Appear IQ enterprise mobile platform and apply them within the construction environment, providing the support required to achieve innovation and the commercial exploitation of new and emerging ideas. COMIT is collaborating with major constructions groups such as Bechtel, Balfour Beatty and Vinci, among others, as well as other industry communities such as FIATECH in the USA.

Kristian Kuhn, Business Development Manager at Appear and Practice Lead for the Field Service Industry, explains: “The very nature of delivering services onsite means that visibility and control of the field worker is vital to the service organization, both to ensure delivery of service excellence to the customer, but also to ensure profitability to the organization itself”.

Appear IQ is a Mobile Enterprise Application Platform that aggregates data from any existing back-end systems in real-time, filter and send information to the field, based on the exact context of the user. Field service workers can receive information relevant to a specific work scenario, i.e. job type, geographical location, spare part, cabling diagrams, timing with other linked jobs or any other user defined criteria. Appear IQ maximizes the efficiency of the mobile worker and ensures that mobile users always have the exact information they require, when and where they need it.

Xavier Aubry, CEO of Appear, adds : “Intelligent field service mobile solutions will interface not only with back-end corporate systems, but also with building systems, once the construction has been completed. Imagine a field technician in charge of the building maintenance, able to connect directly with the air conditioning system or fire alert system from his mobile device.”

Appear will be joining COMIT’s member community day on March 1st, 2012 in a series of discussions giving construction organizations the opportunity to raise their most pressing issues related to mobile IT.
