RATP, the Paris Mass Transit
Authority is deploying Wi-Fi connectivity inside its subway stations as well as at the bus stops. Inside the RATP stations, the Appear Server can efficiently manage mobile enterprise applications related to traffic information, security and maintenance. Onboard RATP buses, the Appear Proxy can dynamically push services depending on the actual location of the bus in the city.

Public Sector |
 |
The Nordrhein-Westfalen Region
has deployed the first context-aware services pilot over Wi-Fi for
public users and employees. Using the Appear Server and Appear
Positioning Engine together with WLAN-enabled PDAs, visitors can view
an interactive location-based multimedia tour of the Zeche
Zollverein museum, and employees can access video cameras and customer
information applications.

Leisure &
Hospitality |

|
France Télécom has created a value-added service offering dedicated to hospitality-related Wi-Fi hotspots (conference centers, museums, sports arenas, entertainment parks). The PilotExpo Wi-Fi
offering, powered by the Appear Server,
enables visitors and event organizers to leverage the benefits of
interactive, location-based services over Wi-Fi networks. |

Technology and Partner Update |
|
|
New release of the Appear Server: APS 4.4.1 is now available APS Server 4.4.1
delivers cutting-edge features such as the capability of feeding context parameters directly into applications. For example,
a train
maintenance worker will be able to activate a station map which
displays both his current and target location.
This map will evolve
as he moves through the station, easily guiding him to his
destination. Thus, context parameters are not only used to present
the right applications to the users, but also to dynamically modify
the applications’ behaviour.
