SITA, the leading provider of IT services to the air transport community, launched a global mobile platform to support its employees and customers around the world
In 2010 SITA, the leading provider of IT services to the air transport community, launched a global mobile platform to support its employees and customers around the world, based on Appear’s IQ software infrastructure (MDM and MEAP modules) and Motorola’s hardware product line.
This platform allows airlines, ground handlers and other airport customers to access common-use applications on demand over heterogeneous wireless networks (WLAN, 2G, 3G). It supports a large number of mobile applications related to aircraft maintenance, passenger and baggage processing, aircraft and airport operations:

The air transport industry is characterized by a constantly mobile workforce and a complex, dynamic workflow model, requiring workers to access and act on real-time information. In today’s environment, however, many processes on the ground are still static, paper-based and not as efficient as they could be.
Using AppearIQ MEAP, the SITA global mobility platform enables the rapid mobilization and automation of key workflow processes, allowing airlines and other airport-based tenants to reduce business costs, improve staff flexibility, better manage disruption and improve customer service. AppearIQ Platform is offered by SITA as a hosted service. A monthly fee is charged per user, allowing the deployment to grow on a pay-per-use basis, with very limited upfront costs.
The SITA global mobility platform can reach out to more than 250 airports where SITA infrastructure is already in place, providing reliable data communication and managed devices to efficiently bridge mobile workers and devices with back-end systems and business applications.
Using AppearIQ MDM, the SITA global mobility platform enables IT departments to easily and centrally manage their fleets of handheld computers.
The platform also leverages the flexible architecture of Appear’s IQ solution as central administration servers are located in the SITA Atlanta Network Operating Center, and distributed edge servers are deployed in regional data centers or local airports if needed.
